In 1969 an accident on Chappaquiddick Island caused by Senator Ted Kennedy resulted in the death of his 28 years old passenger Mary Jo Kopechene. Ted accidentally drove his car off a bridge and into a tidal channel. He swam free, left the scene, and did not report the accident to the police for ten hours. The incident became a national scandal, and likely influenced Kennedy's decision not to run for president. We spoke to the cast at the recent premiere of the movie, and they were all very excited when they first read the script.
